All main rivers i.e. Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej are flowing normal, except River Indus, which is flowing in Low Flood at Guddu Barrage. Today’s river flows and reservoir elevations may be seen at Annexure-I, which indicates that Tarbela & Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1525.65 feet and 1236.00 feet respectively, which are 24.35 feet & 6.00 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet. Today’s combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 12.164 MAF as compared to last year’s 13.468 MAF.
2. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday’s trough of Westerly Wave over Northeastern Afghanistan today lies over Northern parts of the country, whereas yesterday’s Monsoon Low Pressure Area over Jharkand (India) today lies over Northeastern Madhya Pradesh (India). Seasonal Low continues to prevail over Northern Balochistan. Moderate moist current from Bay of Bengal is penetrating into upper parts of country upto 5000 feet. The weather system is being closely monitored by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
3. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls is expected over Southern Punjab, Bahawalpur Division, Sindh, Northeastern Balochistan including upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej during the next 24 hours. Scattered thunderstorm/rain may also occur over the upper catchments of River Indus including Northern Punjab i.e. Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala & Lahore Divisions, besides, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat & D.I. Khan Divisions) during the same period.
4. Scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls is expected over upper catchments of Rivers Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi & Sutlej including North & Northeastern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, besides, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls over upper catchment of River Indus during 7th – 9th August 2016. The isolated/scattered heavy rainfall may generate flash flood flows in local nullahs (the tributaries of Rivers Chenab & Ravi) and Hill Torrents of D.G. Khan & Kohat Divisions during the next 3-4 days i.e. 6th August to 10th August 2016. A peak of High to Very High Flood Level is expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (Inflow) and High Flood in River Chenab at Marala during the same period. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT, watch the situation closely and take all necessary precautionary measures in order to avoid loss of human lives and damage to private and public property.

Significant rainfall events reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours, include; Thatta=72 mm, Sibbi=49 mm, Badin=48 mm, Karachi (Landhi=47 mm, Gulshan-e- Hadeed=45 mm, Faisal=40 mm, Airport=36 mm, University Road=34 mm, North Karachi=31 mm & Masroor=26 mm), Lahore (Iqbal Town=36 mm, City & Samanabad=33 mm each, Gulberg=22 mm, Shahdara=20 mm, Upper Mall & Johar Town=18 mm each, Airport=16 mm, Luckshami=15 mm & Misri Shah=10 mm), Shaheed Benazirabad=31 mm, Khanpur=29 mm, Padidan & Sukkur=26 mm each, Dadu=18 mm, Bhakkar=16 mm, Barkhan, Kasur & Mithi=13 mm each and Lasbela=11 mm.
